We KNOW what ART is!

  • To me art can be either an expression or something intricately planned out.
  • Its about seeing something through an eye differently and creating to help others see what you see
  • Making something ugly, beautiful or useful.
  • Art is something that appeals to all senses, Visual (Paintings, Drawings, etc..), Hearing (Music, Instruments), Touch (Textured art), Taste (Gourmet Food), Smell (Fragrances)
  • Art can help define a culture or record a culture as it grows and creates history.
C. Spencer Lovvorn

Art, to me, is taking something old, making it new
finding something broken, making it useful,
or starting with a blank canvas and creating beauty.

Controversial Art/Historical Art

In May 2007, artist Daniel Edwards released his 'Paris Hilton Autopsy' sculpture, depicting the nude heiress and her dog in an unglamorous pose. Edwards said the sculpture - which included an interactive abdominal cavity - is designed to warn of the dangers of drunk driving. It was shown at the Capla Kesting Fine Art gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Edwards attracted international attention in 2006 for his sculpture of Britney Spears, entitled 'Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston,' which depicted the pop star giving birth on a bearskin rug.

I don't think any woman, famous or not, would want to be portrayed in this kind of way, I think its demeaning. Britney Spear's childbirth is a very personal experience, and this is disgusting and no mother should be subjected to.

This Piece of Art, in it's time, was probably very controversial. Now, it's a part of history that helps us view how women felt when they had no rights. It shows women trying to go vote and push their way through the men, but the men are stopping them and snarling at them, making them feel unwelcome and unworthy.

This photo is a current piece of art that is recording history today, It shows a woman in a cage. The man is pushing her. It's depicting the way a woman feels in a man's world.

Controversy::History

CONTROVERSIAL

O.J. Simpson's book where he describes what would have happened if he killed his wife. Very controversial when you're found innocent of the very crime depicted.

This work of art is titled: For the love of God, by: Damien Hirst.
It is a diamond encrusted skull that totals to approximately 1.8 Million dollars. The controversy surrounding it is an identical piece titled: For the Laugh of God, by: Peter Fuss who used fake diamonds to replicate the original piece exactly. It was specifically made for the public so people could view it.

HISTORICAL

Guernica is a very historical work of art depicting the bombing of Guernica, Spain, by twenty-eight German bombers, on April 26, 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. It became an anti-war symbol because it was geared toward war's effects on tragedy of innocent civilians.

American Gothic is historical because separated American ties to European art. Its purpose was to depict the gender roles in America's society. The woman in the picture is Grant Wood's sister and the man is his dentist, neither posed together or in front of the house.
